I store mixed dyes in mason jars and when the jar is empty I flip it over onto a sock blank - hence the name Bottoms Up. All the Bottoms Up dye jars make circles in various colors that I use when dyeing yarn and it takes months to make one sock blank. The sock blank is double-stranded and when knit up the result is a matching pair of socks. Because sock blanks are a knit fabric, the resulting yarn is kinked. Each sock blank is unique and can't be duplicated.
