Fusion Knitting Class Tues Feb 27th 7pm - taught by Mary W. Martin
Mary Martin is a knitwear designer based in Toronto, Canada, focusing on reversible fabrics. She has developed two reversible techniques: Fission Knitting and Fusion Knitting. Mary will be joining us to teach an introduction to Fusion Knitting.
You’ll receive a $25 gift certificate good towards any purchase on marianatedyarns.com. Gift certificate will be emailed to you after Feb 27th.
Fusion Knitting is a reversible colourwork technique. Design elements are created with slipped stitches placed on both sides of the fabric. The motif on one side of the fabric is mirrored on the other side.
In this class, we will be knitting a small swatch in the round to practice the most used stitches and cables. Emphasis will be on reading your knitting and understanding what happens with each kind of stitch. You will learn the properties of Fusion Knit fabric and why the technique works.
There will be homework (the cast on & first setup round).
Yarn: small quantities of 2 colours of worsted weight yarn
Needles: 4.5 mm/ US #7 circular needles to work a small circumference project; for example: needles with a long cord for magic loop/needles with a very short cord/2 circular needles; note: double pointed needles are not suitable
Notions: cable needle, 1 end of round marker, 2 repeat markers, 1 removable marker
Students must be comfortable with cabling and working in a small circumference project in the round.
Class Length: 3 hours
Class Date: Tuesday Feb 27th 7 pm EST
Optional Bonus Content: Mary will be discussing choosing yarn (yarn construction & colour) for your next Fusion Knitting project. Please remain for an extra 15 minutes after class.
